- Since the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) launched its Aircraft Registry in December 2012, the Republic of San Marino has become a leading jurisdiction for aircraft owners, lessors, financiers, and operators seeking aircraft registration and air operator certification. San Marino Aircraft Registry – a global leader and expert in Aircraft Registration Services, is well-positioned to assist aircraft owners to realize the fiscal and operational benefits of the T7-Registry.
Who manages the San Marino Aircraft Registry?
- The San Marino Aircraft Registry is a family-owned and operated company under the Aviation Registry Group’s umbrella, along with our sister company, The Registry of Aruba. The Chairman of the group is its founder, Jorge Colindres; The President of San Marino Aircraft Registry is David Colindres.
Are aircraft registered in San Marino subject to import duties or value-added taxes?
- The aircraft registered in the Republic of San Marino shall be exempted from an import tax provided:
  - The entity holding the title of the asset is a foreign citizen, a foreign company, or San Marino Trust.
  - San Marino companies engaged in commercial air transport operations that either own or lease an aircraft under an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) issued by the CAA.
Where is San Marino?
- San Marino, which is located on the northeastern side of the Apennine Mountains, is a wonderful place with a fascinating history. It occupies just 24 square miles. This makes it the third smallest state in Europe, after the Vatican and Monaco.
Is San Marino a sovereign state?
- San Marino is acknowledged as the oldest surviving sovereign state and constitutional republic. It was founded by a stonemason, Marinus of Arbe, who became a saint and who set up a monastic community on Mount Titan (Monte Titano) on 3rd September 301 AD. In so doing, he founded the Serenissima Repubblica di San Marino, which is the official title of this tiny Republic.
What options does San Marino provide for an organization or enterprise that wishes to operate an aircraft for the purpose of commercial air transport?
- The Registry offers two options for an organization or enterprise that wishes to operate an aircraft for the purpose of commercial air transport.
  - The first option is to obtain an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the CAA for any operator who meets CAR OPS1, principal place of business definition and has a registered office in the Republic of San Marino.
  - The second option is for a foreign commercial air transport operator to utilize their foreign AOC under an ICAO Article 83bis agreement.
